Funny how a ACOG with a BDC reticle is the best thing since slice bread, but any other scope with a BDC reticle is a total POS not worth using as a paper weight.

Before I get flamed and accused of being a mall ninja for suggesting a PA with the ACSS reticle I am not saying it's good for bench rest or F-Class competition that's not what it is designed for, but for banging full size 18"x 30" steel IPSC targets out to 800yds it works great. the user does not actually look through the sight but instead keeps the.

BTW if you want a BDC reticle in a LPV scope the Primary Arms ACSS reticle is pretty good and I have found it pretty spot on out to 800yds. Advanced Combat Optical Gunsights (abbreviated ACOG) are a series of telescopic. ACOGs are great, but at the end of the day I had a really expensive fixed power scope with very poor eye relief and no diopter adjustment. For me a LPV 1-6 or 1-8 is so much better. I found the ACOG was just sitting in the safe not being used so I sold it. I finally got LPV scope a 1-8 to be exact and started using it for the same thing I was using the ACOG for. I am just a civilian that used them to bang steel IPSC targets out to 800yds for fun and because they are built like tanks also for a unlikely SHTF situation. See Lincoln Tacticals “ 4-Step Guide to Using an ACOG Scope“.I have had two ACOGS over the years the TA31D-100581 4x32 BAC USMC RCO and another one that was calibrated for a 20" barrel I don't remember exactly which model, but I will echo what has already been said about the eye relief and needing great vision to see the reticle. The sight is virtually maintenance free, but if any part of the ACOG doesn’t work, you should contact the manufacturer right away for instructions. When clear of all dirt or other material, use the felt side to finish with the lens cleaning. The “lenspen,” which comes with your ACOG, should be used to remove any dirt from the lens. For further instructions, you should contact the manufacturer.ĥ. This means that the left side of the reticle is closer to the eye than the center of the reticle and the right side of the reticle is further from the eye. This mirror is at about a 45-degree angle inside the gun sight. If something is wrong with the scope, applying too much force on the adjusters can harm the internal prism assembly. The reticle pattern in the ACOG is formed by removing highly reflective metal from a prism mirror. You will find these adjusters on the scope’s top and right side.ĭon’t ever force the reticle adjusters. For example, in order to correct the reticle center by two inches at 100 meters requires eight clicks in the appropriate direction. Note that ACOG adjustments come in at 1/4 inch per click at 100 meters. Incrementally adjust the scope axis until the reticle’s center matches the rifle’s impact point. The recommended method is that of using a boresighter, but the use of live ammunition at a target range should work just as well. This is accomplished by comparing the reticle’s center to the rifle’s impact point. A 1/4-inch screwdriver is recommended, but this size is not critical. Finger-tighten the knobs, then include an extra quarter-turn. Note that the studs should be aligned within the rail grooves. First, locate the knobs at the base of the clamp assembly. When ready, simply look through the scope to ensure the reticle is illuminated.ģ. The reticle is nearly impossible to see in zero-light or extremely low-light conditions until your eyes have acclimated. This should take no longer than a couple of minutes. You will want to ensure the reticle works in a dark room, but let your eyes adjust. You will need to contact the manufacturer’s (Trijicon’s) Customer Service Department to discuss the installation of a new prism assembly, but it can be done.Ģ. First of all, realize that if you don’t like the reticle pattern, it can be changed. Thus, the aiming point is lit up even in zero-light conditions.ĭuring variable light conditions, fiber optics channel an adjustable amount of ambient light into the reticle, making the ACOG a sight for virtually all lighting conditions.ġ. That’s taken care of by tritium (hydrogen-three) illumination which has a lifespan of 10 to 15 years.

It’s relatively lightweight and compact and doesn’t require batteries to light up its reticle. While most hunting scopes are fragile, the ACOG is built like the proverbial tank. But for usability under low light or stressful situations, the ACOG (Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight) possesses some awesome advantages. A lot of rifles come with a moderately usable sight that works fairly well under good lighting conditions.
